Center for Jewish Impact hosts a discussion with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process regarding "Where are the Israelis in Israeli-Palestinian Relations today?”
On August 25, 2022, The Center for Jewish Impact (CJI) hosted a special briefing and discussion with Dr. Sven Koopmans, the European Union’s Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process regarding “Where are the Israelis in Israeli-Palestinian Relations today?” Chairman Robert Singer convened an intimate group of Israeli thought leaders and intellectuals to share their perspectives on the current mindset and trends within Israeli society regarding regional challenges. Dr. Koopmans is in Israel this week to develop a current understanding of trends, mindsets, and activities in Israel regarding the Middle East today with the purpose of developing his own vision and set of policy goals. The Special Envoy said he aims to use insights of the group to gain a perspective on Israel's position in the region, and potential future directions that Israel may take.
Participants included: Professor Charles Freilich, former deputy national security adviser in Israel and long-time senior fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center, Dr. Jean de Gunzburg, chief scientific officer at Da Volterra, Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach Director General of Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, Dr. Tamar Hostovsky Brandes, Senior Lecturer in the College of Law Faculty at Ono Academic College, Amb. Zvi Rav-Ner, Israel’s former Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Balfour Mor, CEO of Meir Ramot LTD, and Adv. Gregory Weitz, representing CJI's Fellows. Dr.Koopmans also expressed, “it is important for the EU and me to listen to Israeli thinkers on how they believe we can achieve peace. “ At the meeting, Mr. Robert Singer, Chairman of the Center for Jewish Impact, said, "Opportunities such as this one are crucial in sharing the viewpoint of Israeli society. We thank the Special Envoy for trusting the Center for Jewish Impact to lead this series of meetings. This is another milestone in our work to share the story of the State of Israel with the global community. We hope that the insights gathered from today will help promote progress regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." This was CJI's third briefing for the Special Representative. These meetings are meant to provide Dr. Koopmans with insight as he reports to the EU's 27 foreign ministers and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. The Special Representative is tasked with framing and developing positions and policies regarding the Israeli-Arab conflict and Middle East peace process.
